![]() ![]() I have invested in high quality lighting, sound and technology in order to give my students the very best online, virtual piano lessons ensuring that students can make exceptional progress. I started teaching online lessons just before the pandemic started, although I am back to visiting lessons now, I still have some students who have lessons online each every week. All you need is your piano / keyboard and your device to view me on - and you’re ready to go! Learning the piano online is an excellent way to learn the piano and since the pandemic, many are choosing to stay online for lessons, or they have realised that you can access many amazing teachers around the globe by having lessons online. Many international students can have lesson before 3pm UK time which also benefits from my off-peak fee. I now have many online students who live in different cities around the world who solely have their lessons online. ![]() It worked well so this morning, I took time to explore the options that many are sharing.I offer piano lessons online via zoom for students who live outside of my Bristol travel area or for international students. I did share my screen and annotated scores. The first week I used it without much experience so I kept things simple and did not use any extra cameras. Zoom wins when it comes to versatility and ease of use and so that’s what I’ll be using-along with most of the piano teaching community it seems. Make sure they play more than you talk-too much talk and lessons will tank. Instead of pointing, you need to indicate measure numbers and students must find it on their own. Since you cannot see as you may like, your ears have to be extra sensitive as do your students' ears. A way to deliver assignments-since I write my assignments on my laptop in Google Sheets and email them, this is ideal for the online lessons. A sense of humor-a better default over frustration.Ħ. A place to put that device so your students can see you and your piano-I adore my adjustable desk on wheels that I got from the Container Store years ago.ĥ. In the past, I’ve held successful online lessons with FaceTime, Skype and Facebook Messenger. Today I’m focusing on how to reinvent lessons and move them to an online platform. To get me through these COVID-19 times, I have three mantras for me and my students: So…now that online lessons are THE ONLY option if we wish to continue our business, it’s time to figure out what tools to use and how to use them.
